Although we do not only sell books, or indeed our own books, as a core part of this site, Silk Route Press is a boutique publisher located in Johannesburg, South Africa. We produce textbooks, fiction, non-fiction, and other types of books. Our founding principle remains “more for the authors, more for the readers”.
How to Publish with Us
If you wish to publish under the banner of Silk Route Press, please send a 2-3 page initial proposal to us at submissions@silkroutepress.com detailing:
- The book’s title
- The genre and sub-genre (essentially, type of book)
- A synopsis of the book
- Especially if non-fiction, a Table of Contents (this can be skipped for fiction)
- The intended audience (if possible, projections of sales, e.g. guaranteed prescribed status for courses)
- Proposed formats (printed, ebook, etc)
- Any other relevant information
How do we Deal with E-books?
Please see the “Our Ebooks” tab. As an author, you can feel comfortable that your Digital Rights Management (DRM) is well protected by our bespoke e-book system which can be found at https://www.mercury-ebooks.com.
Our e-book system has the following features:
- Instead of the redundant and feature-poor method of using epubs, we render and deliver e-books in PDF format for a higher-quality reader experience, especially where the book has a complex layout.
- HOWEVER, we do not give downloadable PDFs to readers, as these are too easily pirated. Instead, we render the PDF into a browser-only, non-downloadable format that cannot be pirated.
- This allows your readers to access the books as a website through any device and with no extra app downloads like Kindle required.
- It protects your intellectual property completely, since the readers can only view and not download the books.
- The PDFs are fully searchable and browsable. Readers can interact with links and we will shortly add the ability to highlight and comment.
