FAQs
How does delivery work?
For new books, we typically deliver orders via Courier Guy or a similar courier. We pride ourselves, with their help, on trying to deliver orders within 1-2 working days after your order if you live in a major South African center. Deliveries that are large or to areas deemed to be out of major centers will typically take longer, up to 3-7 working days. International orders will depend on your location and are to be discussed before purchase. Deliveries of pre-owned books can also include delivery to a PUDO locker as near to you as possible.
How does collection work?
If you are collecting, please liaise with our collections person Hayley at hayleylamb7366@gmail.com. You will collect from her at 30 Jameson Ave, Melrose, Johannesburg 2196. However, please do not go to collect until you have arranged with Hayley.
What happens when I buy an e-book?
Your order details are sent to our companion e-book reading site https://www.mercury-ebooks.com. If you did not previously have an e-book user account there, that site will create one for you, and it should email you your log-in details soon after your purchase. (Note: if you have an account with our main site www.mercury-books.com, this does not mean that you have an account with our e-book site. This happens because people do not always use their accounts to buy books, and we do not like to force you to have an account with our e-commerce site. Therefore, we create seperate accounts in the e-book site).
With your new account:
- Your email address is your username
- A system-generated password will be emailed to you. You can continue to use this password, but we recommend logging in using a wrong (random) password, and choosing the “Forgot password” link. A password reset link should then be emailed to you, and you can use it to set your own password.
If you bought the book with an email address linked to an existing mercury-ebooks account, then your book .
When you log in to mercury-ebooks, you should see book tiles of your purchased e-books looking like this (the “Read” button indicating it is available to you):

When you click into a book to which you have access, you should see the rendered PDF within the browser. Note that in accordance with our description of the e-book system in Our E-Books, you do not have rights to download the PDFs. You can browse their contents and search:
